Welcome to my Blog.
Taking this technology class is truly building my confidence with the fascinating world of technology. I have looked through the different modules and looked at the materials provided to help us in this class and I am amazed at what we could be doing with our students that we are not taking advantage of in most schools. I want you to think about your school division and just share one thing with me that could be changed to help our students be able to use more technology with academics assignments in school and at home. My example is the use of a wiki to do group project assignments without having to meet around conflicting schedules. Please share your technology ideas that would get students more involved and capture their attention.

Good blogging statement Vicky
I think just more access to computers would help greatly. It would be nice to have more computers to teach the important skills they need. When you are limited to a couple of computers it is harder and more time consuming to teach the technology standards.
I, too, thought about how much easier the use of Wikis would make completing group projects. I thought the video that we watched was very elementary, but incredibly helpful in explaining the uses of Wikis.
There is a billion things that I would love to do with my students in regards to technology, but I find it difficult to fit it into the daily routine. I wish that all of our classrooms had smartboards. Unfortunetly, we have to share and that makes it a bit more difficult to use.
I take my classes to the computer lab a lot. I would love to be able to access blogging sites with my students.
We use Smart Boards and Airliners to enhance classroom instruction. Students enjoy Student Response Systems and it makes it easier for teachers to check for understanding and individualize instruction. In the future, I think we will probably have laptop computers built into every desk as we continue to move toward a paperless classroom.
I believe one of the best ways to enhance technology in schools is to improve attitudes and beliefs that technology in the classroom is an important educational component. Children in school today have grown up in a technology filled world. To keep their interest in school, I believe teachers are going to have use ever-changing methods of technology to keep their students' interest. I have been very impressed with Wise County's attitude towards technology. My 7 year old daughter, student at Wise Primary, taught me the other day how to access and use a Smartboard. I think that's great!
We use sound field systems( small speakers with microphones) in many classrooms where a student may have a hearing or listening problems. The system highlights the teacher's voice bringing more attention to it and allowing auditory access for all. Considering the requirements for phonemic decoding in primary schools and the increased incidence of conductive hearing loss this would be a good idea for all primary schools. Several research studies have shown benfit not only to the target student but to all students.
Equal access to technology for all students is so important. While many of our students do not have access at home it is a guarantee that in most professions they will be required to use technology in some form. In many ways it should change what we are teaching- from specific facts to how to access and use those facts.
I think the use of the mobile labs are great. We are starting to use them in every grade, even 5th grade. Eventually though we will need them in EVERY classroom. By having the technological advancements, it makes the classroom more creative for learning. Paper and pencil are becoming a thing of the past.
DAVE HAMPTON: moblie labs are a great way to provide equal access for all students. Easy access is the best way to encourage the use of technology. Early use of computers will help ease the transition into the working world.
I agree with Dave about the mobile computer labs. I have heard that those are very effective in some of our schools.
It would also be great if students could get homework help via computer such as through a chat room with other students and/or the teacher.
I believe technology is the way to go with students these days. They are so high tech oriented that they must have the most latest items out there. Having the most upto date computer, more labs, devices/technology to use in the classroom could help keep the interest of most kids. They have to have access to this technology to learn the required skills. Technology is great to have in any classroom and its benefits are endless. I feel our school system has done a fine job with incorporating technology into classrooms and providing access to the students. I have watched a four year old several times access and use a SmartBoard in her mother's classroom and do great. I wouldn't be able to use it as well as she was!!!
We are very fortunate in my school. We have 4 computer labs with 25 computers in each as well as many classrooms that have 3-5computers. We also have projectors in about 3/4 of the classrooms and about 6 smartboards to be checked out upon availability. I have heard of teachers using blogs at my school to post works of poetry, but it took an "act" to get it set up through the school.
We are currently purchasing two new mobile labs. I agree that access is a must to keep students engaged and making the full use of our resources.
I have a mobile lab with twenty-five laptops housed in my classroom. I use them daily as remediation tools to set assignments according to the needs of that particular student. I really thing pods will be a great way to improve instruction!!
Even as a P.E. teacher I take advantage of the computer lab. I feel technology should be apart of every subject. The more a child uses this technology the more they will be used to it when they graduate.
